Cowes Floating Bridge will be suspended for a time tomorrow (Thursday) and again on Saturday and Sunday, it has been announced.
The Isle of Wight Council says that the East Cowes to Cowes service won’t be operating between 08:00-14:00 for each of the 3 mornings.
No reason has been given but it is known that the service has been experiencing staffing issues, as previously reported by Island Echo.
A normal service is expected to resume after 14:00 on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as all day on Friday.
The usual launch service will be available for foot passengers and cyclists.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that ongoing staff shortages are to blame, presumably due to COVID.

So the signs are correct ‘operating normally’. Excellent. Well done all. 🙂
but what do they mean by ‘operating normally’ ?
‘normally’,.. that is,.. most of the time,.. the floating bridge isn’t running…
so the phrase ‘operating normally’ is an oxymoron (which seems to be close to a description of those who comissioned it)
Let’s hope that the launch staff are nice and fit and healthy otherwise will be really in trouble
Train more staff then…
Can’t do that it costs money and already spent millions on the piece of crap
No. Spend more money on fancy signs to let us know it’s not working!
There are many on the Island without jobs. Why not train them and give them a permanent position.
Training more staff would help…
Don’t tell them it is broken again, spin a yarn about staff shortages, red funnel and wightlink can cancel a few sailings when they can pack 3 trips into one with the same excuse.
i can see why they spent all that money on electric signs, would have worn out the poor person who had to flip the old signs from working to not working.
this abortion is an utter farce and a disgraceful waste of OUR money yet the clowns in county hall think it is wonderful and continue to throw money at it.
Give me a morning’s worth of training and i will work for nothing.
Perhaps the Councillors that are responsible for this heap of junk could operate it ?????
They haven’t got much else to do apart from wasting our money !!!!
At least it would keep busy for a while…..
But then they would have to do real work they can’t do that
Having a rest, before its next breakdown. Any news Mr Jordan, on the massive compensation?
Give me a morning’s training and i will do it for nothing.
2nd time lucky !?????
Get the Councillors who agreed this Heap of Junk, to operate it
……
And continue to waste our money ( ie paying for the jenny ).
what is wrong with all these people they will blame it on covid or lets see if i can have a day off and cause problems for all others who have a car and now have to spend even more fuel to get to Cowes
The saga just keeps going, the only thing people want is a properly working floating bridge that makes money.
Is that too simple an ask from the Council?
