The Isle of Wight Council’s new cabinet member for Transport and Infrastructure has revealed that one of his main priorities is to tackle to the problems experienced by users of the Cowes Floating Bridge.
Councillor Phil Jordan has returned to the Council’s cabinet, taking over the role from Conservative Councillor Ian Ward who held the post for 4 years and saw the introduction of the fatally flawed Floating Bridge No.6 and the new St Mary’s Junction.
The Floating Bridge service has been the subject of many discussions and controversies since its introduction in 2017 – with significant downtimes caused by a large number of issues, including its most recent saga of suspensions just last week.
Cllr Jordan has revealed that the bridge is one of his 2 main priorities to tackle in his new role – alongside communicating with Island Roads to assess the standing of the Highways PFI contract – and has promised to fix the problems felt by its users.

…
hard not to see the irony in this
that was over 5 years ago, has he done it again or not. he made a mistake and paid for it and deserves to get on with his life, we are not all as perfect as you.
it isn’t spent under the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974, for five years from the date of the conviction – he has another 7 months or so yet – so no it is not paid for fully
a mistake eh!!
Police pulled the vehicle with blue lights and requested Cllr Jordan to provide a specimen of breath as they suspected he was drunk due to his slurred speech and glazed eyes. He failed to provide a specimen a total of 3 times stating he was ‘short of breath’ and as a result was arrested for failing to provide and taken to Newport Police Station.
In custody, Cllr Jordan also failed to provide an evidential breath test – officers say he was not genuinely trying. A blood test was then taken.
A female passenger – thought to be another councillor – was in the car with him.
Oh PLEASE!!!!! When he states that it is a priority he probably means that he is just going to blame the outgoing Councillor for the issues to date, and then state that he has inherited the current issues and future problems will be due to the previous issues and nothing is his fault and it will take 12-24 months to sort out these issues and he will honestly get it sorted… honest… He will… really!…IF he wants to sort this out then sack ALL those pen pushers who grab HUGE salaries despite the massive cock-ups to date, THEN step up the legal actions and buy a NEW one! Simples!
No need to fix the floating disaster, just scrap it and build a proper road bridge from Kingston to Somerton, with a park and ride system from East to West Cowes. Then the next time the main Newport to Cowes road is dug up people wont be sat queing for ages, because there would be an alternative way around.
To out in the middle of Solent for Navy target pratice!
