A yellow weather warning for heavy rain throughout Friday has been issued by local forecasters IW Met Service tonight (Thursday).
It’s said that spells of heavy rain will move in during the early hours of tomorrow morning, some of which will be torrential and persistent. Rainfall totals could hit 30-40mm in places.
Flooding and flash flooding is very likely in the usual prone areas along with silt and field debris being washed onto roads and walkways in rural areas. Storm water and sewage flowing onto some of the beaches is also an additional risk, especially in Ryde, Bembridge, Ventnor and Shanklin.
The odd rumble of thunder is expected although currently thunderstorm activity is of no concern to forecasters.
Motorists are being advised of the potential for falling tree debris and dangerous driving conditions at times, especially in rural and low lying areas.
The weather warning will be in force from 03:00 until 18:00 tomorrow.
