Firefighters tackled a pan fire in the kitchen of a flat in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday). Crews from Newport and Ryde were called to Milligan House on West Street in the town shortly after 16:00. At the scene, a fire had broke out on a stove after oil was left in a hot pan. Significant heat and smoke damage was caused to the kitchen. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus entered the flat to isolate the oven and extinguish the fire using hose reel jets before then ridding the property of smoke using ventilation fans. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service conducted a number of home safety visits to neighbouring flats before the stop message came in at around 17:00. A single crew remained on scene for a short while whilst a local fire and security company carried out checks to the alarm system.
