Firefighters from Shanklin have tackled a fire in the open this afternoon (Saturday).
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service crew attended the scene on Golf Links Road at just after 14:30 after a 999 call reporting a fire at the side of the road was received by the control room.
The retained Shanklin crew used 2 hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, which was partially located behind a fence, and had flames reaching several feet in to the air.
It is not known how the fire started. Crews stood down at just after 15:10 having fully extinguished the fire and dampened down the area.

Seems we have a fire starter in our midst
I don’t understand how a grass fire can start after all the rain we have had lately. Petrol must be used by some moron to start this fire.
plus all the damaged closure signs, herris fencing all along the cycle track to Alverstone – mindless scumbags
