A person is being rescued from a cliff at Yaverland this afternoon (Saturday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene at Yaverland car park.
An individual has become stuck on half way up a small cliff between the slipway and Red Cliff.
2 fire appliances from Sandown and Newport are in attendance alongside an Aerial Ladder Platform. Ventnor CRT’s second vehicle is also on scene with 2 Coastguard Rescue Officers (CROs).
The casualty is being helped down the incline to the beach.
UPDATE – The gentleman has successfully made it back down the cliff to the beach below.
Island Echo is told that the man had gone to retrieve his dog then found he was stuck – through fear. The dog happily made its way back down the cliff but the owner couldn’t.
Members of the public tried to provide assistance but the crumbling surface proved a challenge.
3 firefighters from Sandown and 2 Coastguard officers from Ventnor assisted in rescuing the male, who was safely reunited with his dog.
Those on the beach have praised the emergency services for a efficient and quick rescue.

When I was younger I was told not to walk near the edge of a cliff, common sense really…
Seems that all common sense has gone out the window in the last few months.
I know right!! Seriously…
Well done to the rescue services.
