More than 6 years after being ravaged by fire, part of the former Tarvic2 hotel in Sandown could soon be demolished to make way for 10 new seaside apartments.
Mr Farid Barsoum has submitted a planning application to the Isle of Wight Council seeking to knock down the fire-damaged section of the hotel on Culver Parade, replacing it with 10x 2-bedroom apartments complete with enclosed glass balconies overlooking Sandown Bay.
It was in September 2018 that a blaze ripped through the Tarvic2 and St Mortiz hotels, thought to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.

The site has been labelled an eyesore by locals ever since, but that could all change if the green light to redevelop the 0.13-hectare site is given by the local authority.
Under Phase 1 of a wider scheme, the South Western side of the hotel (nearest town) would be razed to the ground between Culver Parade and Crescent Road, with a new standalone block of self-contained apartments built. All 10 properties would be for the open market and would come with a total of 22 parking spaces.
It is hoped that in the future, under additional phases, the remainder of the hotel will also be demolished and rebuilt as either apartments or hybrid flats/apart hotel accommodation.
Planning documents state that the property is currently the subject of the Council’s planning enforcement team, with the local authority indicating support in principle for the building of new residential accommodation. Mr Barsoum first enquired with the Council about redeveloping the site 3 years ago, in February 2022.
Islanders have until 7th February to comment on the plans with a decision set to be made in early April.
Well, of course
Well, well, well…
Planning Enforcement Team at IOW Council? lol!!! And only taken since 2021? I think most people know exactly why Sandown is in the state it’s in.
The island needs more Hotels, not Apartments,
Hotels create jobs, Apartments do not.
Great news. More expensive housing for second home owners.
Not very likely if they are charging
Double Council Tax this year.
If they can afford a second home, they aren’t going to be worried about a bit of extra cash for council tax.
Only a matter of time before the Ocean Hotel owner
wakes up to this and cashes in.
The island needs more Hotels not Apartments.
Just get something built on all these eyesore sites. Tourists will not come to Sandowns version of Banksy’s Dismaland!!
Unfortunately agree as much as Sandown and the island needs tourist and therfore accomadation its more important to first get it looking presentable however that is achieved. Else just seems like cutting of your nose to spite your face by refusing owners change of use.
