A 31-year-old man from Carisbrooke has received a fine following an appearance at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for being drunk and disorderly.
Samuel Christopher Dunkling, of Nodgham Lane, admitted to being drunk and disorderly in Newport’s St James Square in an incident which saw a number of police units deployed on the 11th May this year, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that Dunkling had been seen to make rude gestures to passing police officers, who then pulled over and challenged his behaviour. He was described as being boisterous and refused to leave the area, before pushing his friend to the floor.
Upon being charged at Newport police station, he commented that he ‘needed help with alcohol’.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said that Dunkling had been experiencing a time of emotional turmoil due to family issues and had consumed 4 pints of alcohol at the nearby George Inn in the leadup to the incident.
Dunkling was fined £60 and will also have to pay £85 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

That fine certainly paid all the expenses of the tax payer

………..
utter drivel – the bloke was clearly smashed and there is no way a serial drinker would be that incoherent on four pints. He is either lying or was mixing it with other drugs.
Obviously didn’t want this public but feel like I have to say after seeing another one of your judgemental comments
He actually lost his dad during lockdown
and all of us have lost family members at one time or another, however, we haven’t felt the need to be rude and abusive to the police in town, whilst being drunk as well as arrogant.
so that reason isn’t an excuse and it didn’t stop him being fined
Isle of wighter, can we have your real name as you display such charisma and charm. I do believe you deserve an award for being so perfect through life. No faults squeaky clean and an immense control of your perfect emotions. ( if you have any ) well done you’re an incredible pillar of society
Well said his dad has sadly passed away I think that would effect the best of us There’s no rules on grieving
I lost both of my parents in a 12 month period, but never once did I think of doing anything stupid or illegal. My parents wouldn’t have wanted that. They brought me up better than that.
Unfortunately there is,and if you want to run around town shouting the odds,so be it,that is probably why the magistrates went easy on him, because of his recent loss, ps my condolences x
