Following such a challenging time last year, Cowes Primary School have been busy giving the whole school community the opportunity of celebrating such a special time of year.
It has certainly been a busy time over the past few weeks, with both staff and pupils enjoying the festivities.
The annual Christmas Fayre is said to have been an amazing success, with stalls run by Year 6 pupils. Every child made a Christmas craft/gift – from festive peppermint creams to natural decorations. Children played games, whilst adults enjoyed the wine and chocolate tombolas, a fabulous raffle run by the Friends of Cowes Primary and refreshments from the school’s own kitchen.
A whopping £1,370 was raised towards a new outdoor adventure play area at the school.
As well as the fayre, the children – decked out in their Christmas jumpers – were treated to a special Christmas lunch. On top of this, a Christmas decoration competition encouraged children to make bird/animal-friendly decorations to hang on the school’s horse Chestnut tree, with some really amazing results.
The Christmas Carol Concert involved the Early Years children having a wonderful time performing the nativity, accompanied by the whole school singing and reading the Christmas story, with Rev Andrew Poppe from St Mary’s Church in Cowes in attendance.
The Christmas Fun Day rounded off the fabulous celebrations; the whole school dressed up in Christmas or winter-themed costumes, sang and danced and received a visit from a very special visitor – Father Christmas himself.
