The Little Red Riding Hood pantomime, performed by an enthusiastic group of local amateur actors, delighted full houses across 3 evenings – and an afternoon matinee – last week.
This interactive, music-filled production was a shining example of the Island’s vibrant community spirit and the incredible talent of its performers.
The 2-hour show included lively sing-alongs with crowd favourites such as Take a Chance, Shut Up and Dance with Me, ABC – and the Only Fools & Horses theme tune. The festive finale, a spirited Christmas song, left the audience in high spirits, capping off an unforgettable experience.
A standout performance came from Lewis Pavey, who played Red Riding Hood’s mother – Dame Hood – with comedic brilliance and undeniable charm.
Lewis’ colleagues from Blackwater Mill Care Home cheered him on during one of the evening performances. Katie Schlepp, Head of Lifestyle at the home, remarked:
“The performances were truly magical. The cast’s energy, passion, and dedication were evident in every scene. Events like these highlight the power of community theatre to bring people together and create cherished memories.
“Lewis’s portrayal was extraordinary. If there were an island equivalent of the Oscars, he would undoubtedly win Best Leading Role. His performance had the entire audience in stitches while still delivering a heartfelt connection.”
The pantomime’s success reflects the Island’s thriving cultural scene and the dedication of its talented residents. Freshwater Memorial Hall continues to be a hub for creativity and community engagement, hosting events that both entertain and inspire.
