Emergency services have been called to a road traffic collision involving at least 2 vehicles on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Saturday).
Police, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and a fire appliance from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to the crash which has occurred on Briddlesford Road at the junction of Blacklands Lane.
The incident happened shortly before 10:00.
The road has been blocked and motorists are having to divert locally via Long Lane, Staplers Road and Whiterails Road.
There has also been a crash in Shanklin this morning, with Wilton Park Road being closed to traffic.
UPDATE @ 10:34 – No one has been seriously injured in the incident, in which a Land Rover Freelander has collided with a blue car. A 3rd vehicle is also thought to have been involved.
Briddlesford Road remains closed in both directions from Lynn Cross to Wootton Common – with Blacklands Lane also closed – whilst recovery takes place.
The road is expected to reopen shortly.

More brain-dead drivers thinking its ok to drive on iced up roads without engaging brain…
I rather think that’s a brain dead comment from someone with no knowledge of the circumstances.
More drivers not looking, or realising Briddlesford Rd is national speed limit.. NOT 30mph…
Was this road gritted overnight?
I think so, I drove through about 8am and it was very clear and frost/ice free.
Have you seen the price of grit
Road now open with no serious injuries
More total brainless muppets, driving without due care and attention. Just obey the warnings and only go out on the road if really nessesary. Simple really.
