Emergency services are in attendance at a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident occurred at around 16:00 on Foxes Road, between the zebra crossing and the junction with Mill Street, near Sainsbury’s supermarket.
It is believed that a casualty – a male – has been hit by a Seat Ibiza and is currently lying in the middle of the road.
Damage can be seen to the windscreen, headlight and the wing mirror of the Seat.

Traffic in the area is building with the evening rush hour approaching.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

UPDATE @ 17:15 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the injuries suffered by the male casualty are being treated as serious at this time.

More bad drivers as usual on the island.
Are you still here!
The above comment isn’t me, however, I do agree with it…
In bread Stuart who chokes on a chewitt
Them sainsburys van drivers need to slow down
Who cares I don’t so should you
Spotty face big glasses
Congratulations on another totally meaningless and inaccurate comment!
Actually stu bag, them van drivers do drive wreck less
You pathetic specimen! And ‘wreckless’ is one word. How simple are you?
Were bit simple like your parents
you twat it was a seat (CAR) not a Sainsbury van
Bob the door knob we all know what it was
Please don’t talk bad about my drivers
More idiotic island driving will be along soon, let’s hope this guy is OK…
Hooe the casualty is OK,.
Feel for the driver, unless drink/ drug’s involved.
Most of you lot are drunk or drugged up over there, your bloody mad….
Oh dear. Hope the man is OK..
This junction is terrible for some reason people never look before just pulling out on to foxes road
Maybe the junction could be improved? Something to slow down the traffic, and make drivers more aware of their surroundings.
Hope it’s changed before it happens again.
TEACH PEOPLE TO LOOK… don’t need to change the roads.. as people still will not look.. DRIVERS NEED TO BE LOOKING and taking in, what’s going on in front of them at all times…
What’s this got to do with the junction? The accident was before the junction – as is plain to see to anyone.
Bet it was a worthless drug driver like myself
You arcus people just useless keep standing outside smoking weed
Why does everyone assume it was the drivers fault, the pedestrian could have high on drugs or drink, or a medical condition and staggered out into the road giving the driver no time to react.
Because people have unconscious biases, are prejudiced and jump to conclusions.
Or face buried in phone, oblivious to their surroundings.Even better, let the experts determine exactly what happened instead of the armchair expert keyboard warriors that frequent this site.
One that KNOWS how to drive, should have seen the pedestrian, beforehand. Does not matter in what condition the pedestrian was… unless was crouched between parked cars, and ran out at the precise time..
LEARN HOW TO DRIVE
Are you aware that this part of Newport is where OAPs live.? An a state of OAPs and where families live, walking to the supermarket isn’t nice when there are SO many cars rushing around this area..not having a go just awareness..most of Newport is a hell hole. Young kids up the back of this area on drugs and drinks, doing adult things while the elderly look on and the police do nothing…
Obviously you don’t drive, as you are taught to look out for possible accidents and to slow down, by the look of the car windscreen, the car wasn’t travelling slow, especially as there is a zebra crossing 3 yards from the junction where the accident occurred, so either the car was travelling fast and didn’t stop, or the car is the fastest accelerating car in the world, as the crossing is 3 yards from the junction, but yes someone could of jumped out, but that’s what you are meant to anticipate as being a driver,
There was someone in an old black SEAT Ibiza clunker driving like a tw@T in Carisbrooke the other day. Can’t be too many of those on the road still.
We did ask your mother to slow down
Which, Tw@ts ? There are plenty of them driving around…
More comments from people , most of whom, I would guess, have no knowledge of the facts .
It does imply the pedestrian didn’t use the crossing which was probably the safest place to cross the road.
And only one brain cell between them!.
Didn’t the island just come 10th for the safest place for pedestrians?
Judging from the windscreen, the collision happened with some great force/speed. Why would anyone be travelling at speed close to a zebra crossing?
Slowly starting to actually not be “news” if it happens in Newport – that’s just your casual day 😉
IT IS BAD DRIVING… every motorist should be looking at all times… too many are too busy looking at anything other than the road in front… all these negative votes for the one stating, ‘ More bad drivers as usual ‘ What if it was YOU or one of your children, or partner, ..etc… that got hit ??
Drivers on this Island are very poor drivers.. After any accident, the or each driver should have to take a retest, with an actual driving examiner..at the drivers expense, and banned from driving until completed..
LEARN HOW TO DRIVE>..
Stop blaming us, if the pedestrian didn’t want to be hit they wouldn’t have crossed the road!
Too many unnecessary comments on a partial story. Please can those with such negative thoughts just not bother writing anything. Life is bad enough without having comments like those posted unless you have obsessions with the thumbs down logo.
Speak for yourself. I love hearing all of these moaning old gits.
I walk this part most days and I have seen myself some drivers belting up Fox into Mill then into Caesar’s and coming to a stand still at the traffic light in Drill Hall.. the corner in this matter is not its best, so many drivers just love to swing round the large corner and any pedestrian should look more than twice because I’ve come close to near misses.. Drivers need to slow down where there are pedestrians.. we walk..we don’t go fast and we shouldn’t need to run either..you drivers get there quicker than a walker.. zebra crossing is a joke too, that needs to be moved. Why is it the walker at fault, there have been two deaths this year so far, it won’t be the last..
