British rock legend’s The Who returned to the Isle of Wight Festival for their only UK festival performance of 2016 last night (Saturday), with a thrilling set including ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘Who Are You’ and ‘My Generation’.
The festival has this weekend celebrated 40 years of punk with performances from The Damned, Buzzcocks and The Dolls, but it was Iggy Pop’s early evening performance that stole the show. He proved once again why he is renowned as one of the most dynamic stage performers of all time. His electrifying performance cemented his place in punk history, as Iggy delighted the crowds packed into the Main Stage arena to see one of music’s most enduring and exciting talents.
Earlier, The Corrs brought their unique blend of pop, rock and traditional Irish melodies to Seaclose Park following Andrea Corr’s tribute to David Bowie. The Irish siblings treated the already excited crowds to some of their most instantly recognisable anthems ‘What Can I Do’, ‘So Young’ and ‘Runaway’.
The Kills also thrilled the Main Stage audience with their effortlessly cool style and compelling stage presence whilst still buzzing from the news that ‘Ash & Ice’ became the band’s highest charting album.
The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft also took to the stage ahead of The Who as their special guest.
Today’s line up includes Mike + The Mechanics, Twin Atlantic and Queen + Adam Lambert who will draw the curtain on the first festival of the year.
