On Wednesday 3rd July, three Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team members competed in the 8th round of the Omega Circuits at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.
Kev Foster, newly promoted to 3rd category, made an aggressive start to the combined 3rd-4th race, which was 40 minutes plus 3 laps, and attacked several times throughout the race. None of these breakaway attempts were successful so Foster sat in the bunch and saved his legs for the sprint finish. With 1 lap to go Foster was in a good position but the front of the bunch slowed down and Kev got swamped by riders behind him. He finished in 11th place in the bunch sprint.
In the Elite race were Sam Baker and James Ebdon. This was 45 minutes plus 5 laps of the 500 metre track. After 20 minutes of racing Ebdon attacked with 7 other riders. Baker soon bridged the gap with 6 other riders. The 15 riders continued to work together and soon lapped the remains of the peloton. 5 riders then attacked again and stayed away until the finish. With 5 minutes of racing left, Baker unfortunately punctured and was out of the race. Coming into the bunch sprint Ebdon was in a perfect position on the back of a strong lead out train. Using his fast sprint he managed to take 5th in the sprint and 10th overall, earning a valuable point.
