A community-led initiative in East Cowes is using food, conversation and education to raise awareness about cancer screening and early detection.
Community Spirited Café – located on Vectis Road – will be open between 12:00 and 14:00 on Monday 1st December for snacks, refreshments and Applegate speaker as well as between 12:30 – 14:30 on Tuesday 2nd December for a hot nutritious meal.
The community café will also offer heaty soups between 10:30 and 14:30 on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th December.
Backed by funding from the ‘Communities Against Cancer’ programme, the project aims to equip local residents with knowledge about healthy eating and cancer prevention.
Organisers will be hosting a series of events featuring food tasting sessions, quizzes and story sharing to help people better understand which foods support good health and which may increase risks.
The initiative is focused on increasing awareness around the importance of cancer screening and early detection, with organisers hoping to encourage more people to engage with preventative healthcare services.
