Vecta House Care Home in Newport prepared a traditional Burns Night Lunch to the tune of bagpipes earlier this week (25th January) John Brodie, who is a Highland Bagpiper, visited the home kitted out in the traditional Scottish attire. Residents of Vecta House gathered in the home in anticipation as John walked all through the home playing the bagpipes. The traditional Scottish tunes could be heard all around the home and created strong emotions between staff, residents and families. After Johns’s visit, residents headed to the dining area and were greeted with the room’s traditional Scottish decorations and tableware. Residents then devoured a delicious Scottish meal of haggis, neeps and tatties, with Dundee cake for dessert. Later in the day residents settled in the lounges for a live virtual tour of Scotland while sipping on a glass of Scotch Whiskey.
Elsewhere, at Orchard House Care Home in Newport, residents were also treated to the tones of bagpipes courtesy of John Brodie.
The ambience was further enriched by the eloquent recitation of verses from the celebrated Scottish writer, skilfully delivered by the home’s Scottish-born General Manager, Kim Fleming. Kim’s heartfelt renditions brought the essence of the poet’s work to life, captivating the audience with the beauty of Scottish literature. She said:
“Every moment of today’s celebration was filled with joy, appreciation, and a deep connection to Scottish heritage. It was a testament to the enriching experiences we provide at Orchard House care home.”

Please! Scotch whisky — with no E! Irish whiskey — with an E! There’s a world of difference! (I much prefer the Irish!)
Well, they look enthralled!

Yes, let’s zoom in close on the last photo and ignore the beaming faces on the top two. What an absolute atmosphere vaccume you must be at parties.
