Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police are in attendance at a ‘medical incident’ in Lake this afternoon (Thursday).
It’s understood that emergency crews are attending to an individual who has suffered a medical episode in their vehicle near to the traffic lights on the junction between Sandown Road and Newport Road.
Island Echo can confirm that a casualty has been removed from their vehicle by firefighters from Ryde, with the driver side door being cut from the vehicle to allow better access for emergency crews.
1 female in her 50’s has been taken to hospital by Ambulance.
Traffic in the area is heavy as a result of the incident, with reports of queues reaching into Sandown.
UPDATE @ 15:20 – The vehicle is expected to be recovered from its current position in a bus stop layby.
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has confirmed that 1 person was taken to hospital following the incident. Traffic is beginning to return to normal in the area, although motorists may face slight delays if approaching from Shanklin.
