The Cowes Floating Bridge will be taken out of service later this month for its regular autumn refit, with a passenger launch stepping in to maintain the link for pedestrians and cyclists.
The vessel will be unavailable from Monday 22nd September until Friday 3rd October while essential works are carried out.
Maintenance will include the replacement of the drive chains, servicing of the guidewheels, changing of the hydraulic oil and remedial works to the prows.
A replacement launch service will operate for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the refit period to ensure continued connectivity across the River Medina.

More money, it’s a never ending expense.
You may as well pour that money down the drain
Surely now is the time to remove this abortion, replace it with a launch service and get a replacement with the same dimensions as FB5 and have it built by a competent company, preferably an island one, instead of the bodgit and leggit clowns who “designed” this thing, against the advice of Southampton University who researched the needs properly and said from the word go that the current ferry was not and never would be fit for purpose.
