Dover Park Primary School has welcomed the popular ‘Open the Book’ programme into school once again this academic year, as the dedicated volunteers from the community group return to continue their excellent work at the Ryde school.
Open the Book is a group of volunteers who visit Dover Park Primary School to share stories from the Bible with the children. The interactive sessions involve the children acting out the stories with adults, to provide an engaging and immersive learning experience for all involved.
The group from St James’ Ryde and Shanklin United Reformed churches presented 39 Bible stories at Dover Park last academic year and have continued their work – helping teach the children important lessons such as forgiveness, sharing and compassion.
Headteacher, Mr Kirby, expressed his gratitude towards the Open the Book team, stating:
“Every week, the children look forward to hearing the stories, which all have great morals. We are all so grateful to the amazing Open the Book team, who give up a great deal of their time to provide such an enriching opportunity to our children.”
The children at Dover Park Primary always enjoy the presentations and have gained valuable lessons and insights from the stories shared by the volunteers throughout the year. The staff and students at Dover Park Primary are already enjoying this year’s return of Open the Book team in the current academic year, continuing the tradition of learning and fun that has become a highlight for everyone involved.
