The former Isle of Wight Councillor, Roger Dixcey has been elected to Newport Parish Council overnight to represent the Newport West ward replacing David Whittaker, who has been jailed for six years for sex crimes against children.
A by-election took place yesterday (Thursday) with 357 residents of the ward turning out to vote (14%).
Speaking after the declaration of the outcome of the Newport West by-election to the Newport Parish Council, Roger Dixcey, said:
“This is a great result. I am absolutely delighted that the people of Newport West have given me such a resounding majority. In return, I pledge to do my utmost to ensure that they are fully and effectively represented on the Parish Council. I have been involved with this area all my adult life and whilst it is a great place to live, it does have real problems that need addressing. I am looking forward to working closely with my fellow parish-councillors, the Island MP, Andrew Turner, and Cllr Chris Whitehouse who represents Newport West on the Isle of Wight Council. Together we will be a great team that can really make a difference for local people.”
