A man has been charged following an incident on Newport’s Fairlee Road that saw police stop traffic following a concern for the welfare of a cyclist.
Police attended the busy stretch of road after a cyclist was spotted riding erratically in the vicinity of Racecourse Roundabout at 06:26 on Thursday (3rd June), as previously reported by Island Echo.
The cyclist, originally said to be in his 20s, was subsequently been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.
Samuel Mark Woodford, aged 30 and of no fixed abode, was charged with using threatening/abusive/words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and assault on an emergency worker.
He was bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 22nd June.
