A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and drug offences after he was stopped whilst cycling on Fairlee Road early this morning (Thursday).
Officers were called to a concern for the welfare after a cyclist was spotted riding erratically in the vicinity of Racecourse Roundabout at 06:26 this morning.
4 units from Hampshire Constabulary attended the scene to ensure the male’s safety and that of other road users.
Police have since taken to social media to appeal for the owner of the bike, which is thought to have been stolen, to contact them to recover their property.
The cyclist, in his 20s, has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of the assault of an emergency worker, possession of Class A drugs and the theft of a pedal cycle.
He remains in custody at Newport police station at this time.

How many coppers does it take to pull over a cyclist? 4
I wonder how many to change a light bulb
Utterly ridiculous comment, just what do you class as a “proper job”? Class A drugs, theft and protection of human life, now that’s a proper job to be involved in.
Deserves a hefty sentence inside, probably a warning & suspended sentence!
If you had seen him this morning zig zagging along the duel carriage way , was going straight on then came across in front our van, luckily we weren’t going fast . We beep at him , he then got off his bike attacked our van by trying to smash the window, and pulling open the door. Not what we needed today after just coming from the hospital , because my mum had just passed away. Was very aggressive and he was certainly high on something
4 units!!??? Really!!
