A Ventnor man who told an ex-partner he would ‘smash her place up’ and commit an arson attack is to be sentenced at the Isle of Wight Crown Court next month. Joshua Honan-Parr, 25, of Ocean View Road in Ventnor, pleaded guilty to harassment – put in fear of violence between 8th December 2023 and 9th January 2024 when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Friday (19th January). Prosecuting, Liz Miller, told the court that Police were alerted to a message sent by Honan-Parr to a previous partner in which he said he would ‘splash her’. Police attended the woman’s address and offered her safeguarding advice, it was here that she told them that since their breakup, Honan-Parr would call her constantly, sometimes up to 30 times a day. Some of the calls would say how Honan-Parr would stab the woman and them himself, saying ‘If I can’t have you then no one can’, whilst others said he would come to her house and ‘smash the place up’. During the period of offending, the 25-year-old spent a short time in prison, but as soon as he was released the ‘barrage’ of texts continued. Back in May 2023, Honan-Parr was made subject to a 24-month suspended prison sentence after he was convicted of exposure and numerous assault bybeating charges. By committing this latest offence, he is in breach of that order. Defending, Barry Arnett said that Honan-Parr wished to apologise to the woman and that he accepts that his behaviour caused her to fear for her safety. The case was sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing with Honan-Parr set to appear before a Judge on 20th February. He has been remanded in custody until that time.
