A plane has crash landed at Sandown Airport this afternoon (Monday), prompting an emergency response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Island Echo understands the twin-prop aircraft couldn’t lower its landing gear on approach, resulting in a controlled crash landing at the eastern end of the runway.
The light aircraft skidded along the grass and slightly off to the side on touch down.
Amazingly, no one is thought to have been seriously injured but paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have arrived at the scene to check over those involved.
2 fire appliances and a duty officer are also in attendance, supported by the airport’s crash tender.
Police also have a presence at the airport.
UPDATE @ 14:31 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident, with no action taken.
It has been confirmed that the Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche landed with its landing gear in the up position after 2 hours of trying to lower the under carriage. Minimal damage has been caused to the aircraft.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) will be informed of the incident.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.
Flying airplanes for a hobby should be banned. Especially annoying are the prats that low fly over the beaches; just as bad as the “hard men” on their jet skiis.
