An independent opticians in Cowes is marking 50 years in business by holding a celebration event in early June. Willetts & Doig Optometrists have been at the heart of the community since their establishment in 1974 by Geoff Willetts, serving generations of patients across those 5 decades. To commemorate their anniversary, the team are holding an event on Friday 7th June where patients are welcomed into the practice to join staff in their celebrations. Guests in attendance will be greeted with complimentary nibbles and refreshments, as well as styling consultations courtesy of their experienced team amidst a showcase of their entire selection of frames from Maui Jim. During its 50-year history, Willetts & Doig Optometrists has established itself as a practice that pays due care and diligence to each individual patient that walks through their doors, forming strong relationships with their clients as well as the wider community. Jake Tinney, Director at Willetts & Doig Optometrists, said:
“Being a part of an independent company that has been in business for this long is truly amazing and the whole team love to work here. “It’s also a really great opportunity for the team to celebrate this achievement and all of the hard work that they have been putting in over the past few years.”
Current Directors at the practice, Jake Tinney and Leanne Worley, recently took the lead at Willetts & Doig following the retirement of previous owner, Ross Doig, who had been with the practice since the year 2000. In 2011, Willetts and Doig were the first opticians on the Isle of Wight to introduce 3D OCT scanning to their practice, a service that has vastly improved the world of optometry and eyecare allowing optometrists to gain a much more thorough understanding of the health of their patient’s eyes. More recently the practice was again the first on the Island to introduce Optomap Widefield retinal imaging and Essilor Visioffice technology, further enhancing the level of care and service offered. Since taking the reins at the practice, Jake and Leanne have expanded their technology with a new Topcon MYAH, allowing the team to build a more comprehensive service to combat rising cases of myopia (short-sightedness) on the island. Leanne Worley adds:
“Since joining the team at Willetts & Doig, the local community has welcomed us with open arms and we’ve really enjoyed getting to know our patients better over the past year. “We’re really committed to upholding the incredible level of service and eyecare that was provided for many years by our predecessors and we’re excited to see what the future will hold for the practice. “Celebrating 50 years at the practice, it’s great to be able to give back to our local community that has already shown us and the practice itself so much support.”
After 50 years of dedicated service, the team at Willetts & Doig Optometrists look forward to continuing to provide friendly, high-quality standards of clinical excellence for the eyecare needs of Cowes and the wider Isle of Wight community. Majority of Island motorists need to pay them a visit.
A few years ago it was the Hakim Group that bought into the practice as a majority shareholder who call the shots so its not a independent. Look at companies house, Hakim have purchased optical practices in Ryde, Shanklin and Cowes so a true independent is much harder to find.
