“We are always focused on ensuring we are match-fit to respond to any major incident or terrorism incident” – that’s from Counter Terrorism Policing South East following a major terror attack exercise with Police, fire and ambulance partners across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The 2-day exercise – which is not in response to or based on any specific threat or intelligence – included live-play elements to test a number of specialist capabilities across policing.
Facilities at St Mary’s Stadium and The Ageas Bowl, both in Southampton, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s training headquarters at Netley, were used for the scenarios to create realistic challenges for those involved and also to minimise any potential disruption to the public.
Assistant Chief Constable Tim Metcalfe from Counter Terrorism Policing South East has said:
“These sorts of incidents can often present a complex and confusing picture in the initial stages. We use exercises such as this to ensure that across policing, our ability to respond to these incidents is tried and tested. It is also an opportunity for us to strengthen our existing partnerships other emergency services such as the fire service and ambulance service, not forgetting our local authority partners, who are a crucial part of any response to such incidents”.
Assistant Chief Constable Catherine Akehurst, from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, said:
“This exercise was a great opportunity to test our plans and make sure we are as prepared as possible in the event of a large scale emergency.
“We take these exercises very seriously and I’m grateful for the hours of hard work our officers and staff have put in, alongside our colleagues at CTPSE and other partners, to get to this point.”

As long as nothing happens in Sandown, not even the A-Team could get there in a hurry.
Let’s hope this is not being carried out because the authorities realise that to allow the unchecked people of world to arrive, settle and breed has now made the once safe UK a more hostile place for the indigenous to bring up their children now.
The Island had escaped much of such horrors, but as massive building is being carried out, then all that is about to change within a few short decades.
Politicians have let us down badly, but are protected from the ills of such so could not care less.
More to do with controlling the population than anything I’d imagine. Preparing for food/fuel/energy shortages in the not to distant future.
If so Stacy, then surely bringing in even more bodies all needing food, energy, water, landfill, transport is adding greatly to the ‘problem’.
If these beings stayed where they belong, the amount of housing would be reduced here, meaning more homes for our own and less green fields destroyed to give a home to those who have far more offspring that the ave Brit, so making the problem far far worse for the next generation.
Whilst they all arrive with nothing, within a year or two most all have ‘obtained’ a home, car, and use resources from day one of arrival. Nhs and dentists cant cope now.
So IF it for controlling the population then adding to the numbers seems mad, especially when most of such are well used to knives guns etc
Were you around in the 1980’s and early 90’s? There were far more terror attacks overall from ‘home grown’ terrorists than any other group now.
Rob, those terror attacks were mainly IRA. And as you must realise, NOTHNG was done for decades UNTIL they almost killed the Government at Brighton.
Same with Covid, IF it was ‘no risk’ to the Government or better people nothing much would be done, but as their money couldn’t buy safety it was
Same with immigrants, if they were raping, stabbing, shooting, acid attacking and mugging the Government ministers, instead of those of us that have to share streets, nightclubs, parks, public transport etc, then such measures would be met to deal with the problem.
As it is, those in power travel in private safe cabs and cars, go to selected nightclubs, and live in safe areas well away from the dross of the world dumped upon us.
