New tax breaks for pubs, live music venues, film studios and electric vehicle charging points will be included in Isle of Wight Council policy, councillors have agreed.
The policy, finance and resources committee (PFRC) last week (Thursday) decided to approve a draft Policy for the granting of Discretionary Non-Domestic Rate Relief which incorporates government changes, as announced in the autumn budget.
Claire Shand, director of corporate services at the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“Every year central government release their budget in the autumn which often includes changes to support businesses in the payment of their rates.
“From April 1, 2026, central government has announced some amendments to the reliefs they are going to provide under the discretionary relief scheme.
“There’s the removal of a retail, hospitality and leisure relief which is being replaced with retail, hospitality and leisure specific multipliers for the calculations of business rates.
“There’s also a change to the supporting small business rate relief, there’s a new film studios discretionary relief, there’s also an electric vehicle charging point and forecourt relief.
“The government stated they are going to provide additional support to pubs and live music venues which means they will get an additional 15% on top of the other support they get.”
She added all the new reliefs mentioned in the council’s policy are fully funded by central government grants.

The prices many of these venues are charging for food and drink
they don’t need a break, it’s customers who need a break
A break in their extortionate prices.
So your solution is what exactly, let pubs and venues collapse because prices went up with costs? That’s not an argument, it’s just complaining without thinking it through.
Have you got nothing better to do than keep
relying to my comments, obviously another
Enough is Enough fan.
Welcome on board, all numpties are welcome.
If numpties want to pay over the top prices then
let them.
Spoons for me, all day long, they can ot be beaten
for value.
Once you’re calling people ‘numpties’ you’ve already lost the argument. If your whole stance is ‘I like Spoons so everyone else is overpriced’, you’re ignoring the obvious, different pubs have different costs, and not everything runs on a high volume chain model. That’s not an opinion, that’s just how it works
Engaging with EIE is quite pointless. This is a person whose insight is unsurpassed, whose analysis of any problem is of the highest order and who has never, ever, been wrong about anything. The level of his/her vocabulary is also right up there with the current President of the USA.
Truly, we are lucky to have him in our midst.
That is true, but the majority of them overcharge.
FACT!
They aren’t charging those prices to make massive profits, they are charging them because their costs for staffing, food, drink, utilities etc have increased horrendously
Ballsh*t, so many places charging £3.00 for
1 teabag or £4.00 for a coffee
THEY ARE TURNING CUSTOMERS AWAY WITH SUCH
PRICES
SCANDALOUS
Amazed anything is still open after rising energy ,prices, minimum wage hikes ,national insurance rises, rising costs of food etc etc.
That is true, bit businesses need to remember their
customers are also feeling the pinch.
