LIFEBOAT & COASTGUARD CREWS TASKED TO A TRIMARAN IN POSSIBLE DISTRESS

Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were sent alongside Bembridge RNLI to St Helens following reports of a vessel in possible distress this afternoon (Thursday).

Bembridge RNLI launched its All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) at 16:40 to assist a small, single-handed trimaran that was having difficulty making progress in the SE F7 winds and moderate to rough sea. The vessel was said to be 2 nautical miles NE of the boathouse.

A yacht that was nearby kept communications and eyes on the trimaran prior to the arrival of the lifeboat.

The vessel was not far from St Helens Fort with the owner determined to make landfall without assistance, despite a damaged port float.

The ALB stood by until the boat had beached safely on the beach just south of Nodes Point.

Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to St Helens Duver, however, once on scene, it was ascertained the vessel and crew were safely ashore and did not require any assistance.

Bembridge RNLI’s ALB returned to to the boathouse and was recovered by 17:30.
