Several Co-op stores across the Isle of Wight have been left with empty shelves following a major cyber attack on the company’s systems.
Stores such as Anglesea Street in Ryde and Landguard Road in Shanklin have been notably affected, with fresh food supplies running low and deliveries disrupted.
The Co-operative Group has confirmed that the cyber attack led to “sustained malicious attempts by hackers to access our systems”, which in turn has disrupted deliveries to stores across the country.
Staff have been working around the clock to minimise the impact on customers, but shoppers are still reporting today (Thursday) that there is reduced availability across stores.
Worryingly, it’s also been confirmed that customer data was accessed during the hacking incident. The extent of the data breach is not yet known.
Shirine Khoury-Haq, CEO of the Co-Operative Group, has said:
“We are experiencing significant disruption following a cyber-attack on the Co-op.
“Our teams are working to protect the organisation, assess the impact, and assist authorities. Some systems have been shut down to contain the threat, which is affecting store operations.
“A limited amount of member data was accessed, which we deeply regret. While we can’t share full details yet, we’re committed to transparency and will update members as soon as we can”.
And this is why some of us never ever sign up to loyalty/reward schemes. Or give an email address to get the receipt on purchases.
Very sad the CO-OP do some great deals.
I hope this problem gets rectified asap.
I totally 1000% agree with you there, Just look at the CEO name.
Too expensive anyway. Prices are extortionate. Can’t remember the last time I shopped in the coop
