When she was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago, local woman Carly Sanders decided to have her hair shaved off knowing that she would probably lose it when undergoing treatment.
As she has grown her hair for the last 29 years, this was some hair to lose but with the thought of raising money for charity Carly and her family and friends organised a special evening.
Taking place at The Castle Inn, Newport, the Isle of Wight branch of the Wessex Cancer Trust is now set to benefit from Carly’s kind offer.
To date, the total is £4,630.28 – but this could rise as the donation platforms are still open.
Carly said:
“I’ve recently been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Whilst hopefully treatable, I will be undergoing intensive chemotherapy and am likely to lose my hair which was 32 inches long. I made the decision to have it shaved before this happens.”
The evening was a great success, and the pub owners were thanked together with others who have donated already or contributed via Just Giving. So far Slug & Lettuce IOW £575.27, The Castle Inn – Newport £1223.31, other donations and Just Giving to a total of £4,630.28.
Following the money count-up, Carly said:
“Thank you everyone who has helped support me. By sharing a page, shaving their heads with me and of course donating. Thank you all so much.
“A massive shout out to The Castle Inn – Newport, Karaoke and Disco IOW, Slug & Lettuce IOW for everything you have done. And to the wonderful Lauren at Allsorts hairdressers. Finally, to my family especially my mum Linda Stone for everything you are doing for me at the current time and for what is to come.”
Carly has now started her course of intensive chemotherapy. Her fundraising page is justgiving.com/fundraising/carly-sanders81.
