“We provide buses for the routes and will continue to do so whenever there are volunteers to drive them.

“The Partnership has taken the decision to reduce the number of days it operates from Monday 5 January – but it is hoped this will be temporary, whilst more volunteers are recruited and trained.”

Changes to services from 5 January 2015:

Route 6 – No change. Southern Vectis to provide drivers for journeys previously operated by Community Bus Partnership volunteers.

Route 22 – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only.

Route 23 – Tuesday and Friday only.

Route 24 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday only.

Route 32 – Monday to Friday, with financial support from Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood Parish Councils. Funding for the Saturday service is currently under review.

Route 34 – Monday and Thursday only.

Cllr Ian Ward of the Community Bus Partnership said:

“The Community Bus Partnership was established in 2011 to provide essential bus services, using volunteer drivers, to areas previously served by Wight Bus.

“Although recruitment of volunteers has been very successful, getting them processed and trained has proved challenging because of changes in government agency procedures.

“We are working to overcome these issues and hope to get back to full driver strength and return our six services to normal as soon as we can.”
