Members of the public can get a look behind the scenes at Briddlesford Lodge Farm on Open Farm Sunday this weekend (12th June).
Briddlesford Lodge Farm is a working dairy farm with a milking herd of 150 prize-winning pedigree Guernsey cows. There is a further 150 young stock, made up of heifers and calves, some bred for milk and some for veal.
The Farm Shop and Bluebells Café will be open for purchasing and tasting products, or just for browsing, and all will be offered a free drink of milk after the farm tour. Visitors will be able to see the range of Briddlesford’s prizewinning dairy products – milk, butter, cheese, and many other locally produced foods.
A guided tour by Griffin family members will show visitors the milking herd, calves, heifers, the barns, static machinery, the Heritage Centre, and the cows being milked. They will witness a real working dairy farm in action and learn how we care for our animals and the environment.
Open Farm Sunday is a national event organised by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and around 500,000 people are expected to visit farms all over the country, experiencing the joy of discovering the great outdoors down on the farm.
Paul Griffin, a partner at Briddlesford Lodge Farm, said:
“Here at Briddlesford we farm to the highest welfare standard, and we welcome the opportunity to join in with this national event which Briddlesford has taken part in since the first OFS in 2006. We want the public to know how we care for our animals and the environment, and how milk is produced”.
Visitors must book by emailing [email protected] for a free place. Places are limited.
