Police are renewing appeals for the public’s help to trace a missing man from London who is thought to be on the Isle of Wight.
At 15:00 on Monday 13th June, Robert ‘Robbie’ Gibson, 45, left his home in Gipsy Hill, Norwood to go for a walk.
Officers have since been informed that Robert was seen at 18:45 that day catching the catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde. He is then believed to have boarded a train at Ryde Pier Head towards Lake and Shanklin.
As the Metropolitan Police and Hampshire Constabulary continue their enquiries, it has been established that Robert visited the Co-Op on Landguard Road at 19:45 the same day (13th June), where he purchased a number of items. He is seen to walk out of the shop and cross the car park to the right before heading in the direction of Shanklin Town Centre.
Robert, who is known to enjoy coastal walks and often stays on campsites, has not been seen since.
Police and his family are growing increasingly concerned for his safety and wellbeing and have released a CCTV image in the hope of producing some fresh leads as to his whereabouts.
On Monday, HM Coastguard and WightSAR, the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team, conducted a search of Devil’s Chimney in Bonchurch however nothing was found.
Robert is described as white, 6ft tall, of slim build with grey hair. He wears black rimmed Prada glasses. He was last seen wearing a green/khaki ‘Barbour-style’ jacket, brown trousers and white trainers and carrying a blue Co-Op bag for life.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Police on 101 or the charity Missing People on 116000.
