Cowes Enterprise College was pleased to welcome the representatives from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation to showcase the academy’s careers curriculum.
Colleagues from Gatsby, a charitable foundation that created careers benchmarks as a framework to guide careers programmes within schools, were given a full tour of Cowes’ facilities, before speaking with senior leaders about the steps they have taken to embed high-quality careers guidance for students.
Gatsby now works to support the implementation of the benchmarks through funding research; publishing guidance and good practice for schools and colleges; and promoting the importance of career guidance.
As showcased through its award-winning Maritime Futures Curriculum, Cowes Enterprise College is committed to delivering ‘Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance’ (CEIAG) in line with the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Good Career Guidance.
From year 7 onwards, students at Cowes Enterprise College have access to expert and effective careers support delivered through a variety of delivery methods such as interactive workshops, careers fairs, employer talks, guest speakers, and trips to colleges and universities.
Students at the school benefit from established partnerships with local businesses and universities, ensuring they can make well informed plans and decisions about their futures. This is all supported by wider careers programmes and initiatives which have been established by Ormiston Academies Trust.
Rachel Kitley, Principal at Cowes Enterprise College, said:
“It was fantastic to welcome colleagues from The Gatsby Charitable Foundation to Cowes, and to show them first-hand just how seriously we take high-quality careers advice for our students. We believe that providing students with a positive vision for their future, and the tools to have exciting and fulfilling careers, is just as important as what they learn in the classroom, and we are excited to continue this work in 2023.”
