A car has crashed and come to rest on its side on a rural country lane between Binstead and Wootton tonight (Sunday).
The single vehicle incident has occurred on Newnham Lane, close to Firestone Copse.
Fire crews from Newport and Ryde responded to the incident at around 21:30. However, according to fire control, 2 persons had already freed themselves by the time firefighters arrived on scene. The crews are now carrying out scene safety.
2 young females in the car have escaped any serious injury.
Newnham Lane – a single track road – is understood to be blocked but is expected to re-open once the scene has been cleared.

Phil must be sleeping
Another youngster who thinks they can drive but can’t all idiots
BLACK ICE ACTUALLY!!!!
Lou, Please don’t use that ‘term’. We do not want our electrical stores looted
Aziz, please don’t make stupid and irrelevant comments. We do not appreciate them.
Oh grow up !! You’re pathetic ! Some very childish remarks and comments I would expect to hear from a 12 year old. It’s BLACK ICE… it’s not a made up thing sunshine I’m afraid. Now go back to your own little world of ‘racism’ and get your dirty nose out of people’s business!’
I dislike racism!… do you mean “ice of colour”
This was my friend and they crashed because it was icy so pipe down
So not driving according to the conditions then yes?
Yet another person who is too quick to judge! I do not drive fast because you don’t gain anything. I would never put my friend in danger so if I wasn’t driving according to conditions do you honestly think I would be here right now?! ‘Some guy’ too ashamed to show your real name because of pathetic comments. Give it a rest!
Ok it was gods fault then. Im sure your insurance company will accept that.
What is it to do with you anyway? You keyboard warrior.
Yes
How do you know it had anything to do with her driving? She is a very safe and considerate driver unlike most “youngsters” who unfortunately by total accident went over some black ice. Complete freak accident. It’s a sad world we live in if people have to jump to conclusions like that. So If you was walking down the road and happened to accidentally slip over on some ice that you didn’t see does that mean you was walking like a complete idiot? Have some consideration because not all “young” drivers are idiots!
You weren’t there, you didn’t see anything. Until you have an idea of what you’re talking about, keep your opinions to yourself and show some respect.
Behave you silly old fart ”Mr ive had my licence since the pyramids were planned and I’ve never had an accident” old dinosaurs like you never think positive!
When drivers disrespect weather conditions accidents will happen, and sometimes lead to deaths. Unfortunately some drivers think bad conditions don’t apply to them, sad….
We all have to gain experience of driving somehow. Passing the test is just the beginning of learning to drive.
These days, it seems to be quite a rate thing to get ice or snow,. (perhaps it’s this climate change thing they keep on about), so the opportunity to learn about driving on ice or snow is quite rare.
Things that perhaps the driver can learn from this:
1. if the temperature is near or below freezing, there may be ice (I don’t think they actually teach anything about that when learning to pass the test)
2. it’s often difficult to tell the difference between a wet road and black ice, until you’re on it (I don’t think they teach anything about that either)
3. Newnham lane is never gritted,.. therefore, if it could be icy, don’t go down there….
Learning can be quite painful sometimes,…I’m glad they weren’t badly hurt.
Yes very sad on how many people die from car accidents. Whether their fault or not. ‘Unfortunately some drivers think bad conditions don’t apply to them’. However , I think you should know from age 17- however old people are driving til now a days , obviously know the weather applies to them you silly cow. Stupid comment to make isn’t it really?!
More bad driving on the I o w
And more idiotic comments from you about driving on the IoW.
Spot on again Phil
You clearly ain’t a driver yourself. Because if your thoughts matched your driving I’m sure you wouldn’t be here today! (Referring to ‘Phil’ & ‘Ben’
Not judgy much then, like to see you lot doing your superb expert driving on black ice.
Its called black ice because you can’t see it and once your on it you have zero control.
The only ones here who are idiots are the ones judging others.
Driving to fast for the condition and lack of experience it’s the same on the school run in a hurry all the time
TOO FAST?! Excuse me? You don’t know me or the whole situation , too quick to jump on some drama and judge something you have 0 knowledge on.
Only the driver would know how they were driving… instead I would like to focus on why they would chose that route in the first place. Island roads can only grit the main roads, so why chose a tiny cut through route, unless you take it at 10mph you will probably crash. It’s like Burnt House lane. There are hundreds of crashes there due to ice, so unless you have to go that route, why would you?!? Stick to the main roads, and drive to the conditions
