A car has narrowly avoided hitting a building within the grounds of St Mary’s Hospital after crashing through a wooden fence this morning (Sunday).
Police are currently in attendance at the Forest Road junction of the wider St Mary’s Junction in Newport, where a Peugeot 206 CC has crashed.
It’s understood the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate the right hand turn when travelling from Forest Road, resulting in the car mounting the pavement and going head-on through a wooden fence – stopping just a few feet from the corner of a building.
No one has been injured in the single vehicle collision and no arrests have been made.
The car is now being recovered by Stag Lane Motors and a lane closure is in force to facilitate this.
Staff from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust are inspecting the damage to the boundary fence.

Straight into the sun, or, did the fence jump in their way?
Getting to be a daily occurrence!
Very worrying.
The photo and description do not appear to relate to the same incident. The road at this point is straight and Forest Road is the other side of the central refuge and several hundred yards further on.
Wrong! I was there and saw it, it is as IE describe…..
A lot of people just shouldn’t drive simple s
Be interesting to know why, medical incident ? or phone ? or ?
It was bound to happen, terrible junction, not marked clearly and no ‘no entry’ signs. Since opening, I’ve had 2 near misses turning right from the north.
The driving standards are certainly terrible – blaming the junction layout is lazy and if you have had two near misses then maybe you should adjusst your driving style?
I disagree. I use this junction twice a day .it’s way better than the old junction .I think the problem is a lot of people do not know how to read road signs or road markings .
Bloody Peugeot drivers
Wet night tonight (Wednesday) wonder how many drivers will crash, flip or drive intp a tree tonight and blame road conditions..not themselves for driving to fast and reckless for conditions..sure be reading sbout it tomorrow..
