The driver of a Ford Focus ST has been hospitalised with serious injuries following a head-on crash with a double decker bus during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), with Police now appealing for witnesses and seeking to identify 2 mystery bus passengers. Emergency services were mobilised to Clarence Road in Wroxall – the main road connecting Wroxall to Upper Ventnor – at just gone midnight following reports of a 2-vehicle collision that resulted in a small fire. Police, paramedics and firefighters arrived on scene to discover the badly damaged wreckage of a Southern Vectis Route 3 bus and the blue Ford Focus off the road in a hedge. Island Echo understands the car was on the wrong side of the road when the impact occurred. A man in his 40s from Ventnor – the driver of the Focus – was flown to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance at just gone 02:00, where he remains in a serious condition this morning. It has been confirmed that 3 people on the bus – including the driver – walked away with minor injuries. They were treated at the scene by paramedics. Police are now seeking for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage to come forward. They are also looking to identify 2 bus passengers who got off the Route 3 bus and walked off without giving their details. A Police spokesperson has said:
“You can call 101, quoting reference number 44240370129, or report online here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/”
Richard Tyldsley, Southern Vectis general manager.
“One of our Route 3 buses was involved in a collision near Ventnor yesterday at around midnight. Our bus was hit head-on by a car that was on the wrong side of the road. “There were six passengers on-board our bus at the time. Two of them, along with our driver, sustained minor injuries, and were treated at the scene. We’re supporting our driver with his injuries and the obvious shock of the incident, and we wish the passengers a full and speedy recovery. “We understand the driver of the car to be seriously injured. Our thoughts are with them, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery also. “The bus was badly damaged and was recovered back to the depot.”
If motorists STOPPED speeding accidents like this would not happen.
If vehicles stayed on THEIR side of the road, head on crashes would not
happen.
With all the Gigabit laid. I find it strange IW Council cannot install
CCTV/ Camera’s islandwide.
Also do buses not have Camera’s installed
Island Roads are a joke.
Beachfield Road, Sandown
Briddlesford Road
Military Road
Yaverland Road
Great Preston Road
Beaper Shute etc
Fairley Road
ARE ALL AUTOBAHNS
20 is plenty
“I find it strange IW Council cannot install CCTV/ Camera’s islandwide.”
are you willing to cover the cost of that ??
for most roads, 20 is most definately NOT plenty
no, 20 is too slow and it causes more problems than it solves
it may come as a surprise to you, however, not all of us want the island to move at the pace of a pensioner
And your topic on Mastermind is stating the bleeding obvious.
Well you’ve been smoking something strong
If , strong word two letters, if , if only human beings could stop being idiots, if this , if that, what if ……. if only l could pick a few numbers if , one this is not if but when who’s gonna troll this if you dare lol.
You do know that the answer to the 2 missing passengers is on the bus it has CCTV just look at that post a picture someone will know them
they aren’t missing – they have gone on their way and are under no obligation to contact anyone
If they are witnesses they should come forward.
Wonder if same ST ? that sped through Whitwell around 23.50/55 they had to decelerate quickly and nothing but miss fires and banging from exhaust waking people up.
Yes, they been doing that in Ryde too for months. Accelerate hard too. Police just ignore it because the Tories decimated the criminal system. We get no justice. And the new red Tory government will not fix it either.
