A collision involving a MG car and a Ford Transit has prompted an emergency response from Police, fire and ambulance crews afternoon (Friday).
The incident has occurred on Swanmore Road outside The Falcon pub, in which the MG has collided with the rear of the Transit tipper.
2 fire appliances from Ryde are on scene alongside resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and local Police.
The crash occurred around 15:30 and it’s thought low sun may have played a part on what is a particularly narrow section of the carriageway.
No one has been seriously injured or trapped but substantial damage has been caused to the car.
The one-way road is currently blocked from the junction with Milligan Road.
UPDATE @ 16:08 – Firefighters have now moved the car, parting it from its embedded position.
The road remains blocked but is expected to re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – It has been confirmed that the driver, a 65-year-old woman, was able to free herself from the car.
The road has now reopened.

“Distracted, Madam..?”
The low, bright sun at this time of year is a real nuisance even when walking, never mind driving. If this was the cause then the lady has my sympathy.
bollocks, sun glasses, sun visor and knowledge of size of her vehicle… what if someone was trying to cross the road.. ?? Bad driver… ban her from the roads, or she might kill someone next time..
No motorcycle to blame for this one !
Should have gone to Specsavers
Don’t understand the hatred towards dad jokes on this site XD Bravo sir, I commend thee on the dadliest joke!
“You can’t park there!”
Does no one get the meme?
Could have been a cyclist. Poor excuse cars are fitted with visors.
Whoops a daisy, bang goes that theory about multi tasking lol.
I don’t understand why there are so many ‘thumbs down’ on these comments. Yes, the sun was low. I went along Swanmore Road towards Haylands and Upton (so same direction as the MG driver), only a short time before this incident. It was difficult to see in such bright light. It’s not rocket science though, if you can’t see where you’re going, you just take more care and slow down, maybe even stop if necessary – safer than driving blind and crashing!
If cannot see… STOP simple enough, and put hazards on.. then put mobile away and dig out some sunglasses, and drop visor down…
Ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!! Should not be on the road, what if someone was standing there waiting to cross the road,,,….. Ban the woman from our roads please… low sun is nasty, but that is why there are sun visor’s and sunglasse’s… If cannot drive.. DON’T
Again driving with undue care and attention.. large fine and points on licence
She should be done due care and attention let’s see coppers??????
