The sighting of a capsized boat around 100m off the shore at Seagrove Bay prompted a call out for Coastguards earlier this afternoon (Wednesday).
A member of the public spotted the vessel’s hull above the waves from the beach – between Seaview and St Helens.
A photograph of the small boat was posted to social media at 13:40, with HM Coastguard alerted to the situation soon after.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to investigate the report but it didn’t take long for Coastguard Officers to deem the incident a false alarm with good intent.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
