Police are in attendance at a road traffic collision between a double decker bus and a van in the upper reaches of Ventnor this evening (Sunday).
The crash has occurred on Ocean View Road at the junction with Gills Cliff Road and Newport Road, outside the chip shop.
A Ford Transit van has gone into the front of a Southern Vectis Route 3 bus, causing substantial damage to the front ends of both vehicles.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the incident, which occurred at around 19:10.
Motorists travelling between Upper and Lower Ventnor are being diverted via Gills Cliff Road whilst recovery of the bus and van is arranged.

White van likely at fault, bus drivers know what they are at.
Check van for dope, check driver for drugs, drink, insurance, mot and tax, also dip tank for red derv. Check tyres too. Check license .
Likely find several misdemeanours amongst it, IF the Police can be ‘bothered.
#NOTALLVANDRIVERS
Most van drivers are a pain in the ass, very aggressive drivers….however, bus drivers are lunatics if they are not on schedule…
Then those few have NOTHING to fear have they
Wow so quick to assume. A van going up such a steep hill fully loaded and a bus coming down the hill over the white line!! Your comment is nothing short of ignorance and presumption
the bus wheels are NOT over the line. Look at the photos idiot.
Idiot? Was you there? I don’t think so I was. Admin allows someone to call someone a idiot but does allow me to question the article and the way it’s wrote? Appalling!
The bus had right of way and other drivers should be driving to expect the unexpected – van driver at fault I’m afraid. Double deckers use that corner every 15min plus coaches and school busses and get round ok.
More than likely speeding is the cause, some van drivers do not know how to
drive vans.
Everyone speeds on this island including you probably but you don’t know facts like most comments on here total rubbish
Oh get a life..every person that has an ACCIDENT is on drugs or up to something they should be..wouldn’t like to be your partner
And not too long ago a bus driver was speeding and flew off by the Dpd depot by Newport and landed in a field, must really know where they are aye XD
I think all van driving tradesmen should blacklist you after that bigoted statement.
Drivers do like cutting the corner there, only a matter of time before it happened
To be fair a double decker bus is hard to see
To be fair so’s a white van. Well camouflaged.
The Southern Vectis buses are Far Too Big for the Islands narrow roads !! .. The bus drivers are always having to throw the bus wide and over the white line on many of the tight corners around Ventnor !! .. If you look at the damage on both vehicles, it is obvious that is what has happened here ?? .. The corner at the school lay-by as you leave Upper Ventnor towards Wroxall is horrendous for buses taking it wide , luckily it is a clear view without hedges or verges .. Scary going around a corner and seeing a bus coming at you on the wrong side of the road … The Police need to sit on a bus journey up front with the driver to see the way these Buses have to constantly BREAK the Law ..
Break the law in what way?
It’s your job, as a driver, to anticipate large vehicles straddling the white line when you approach bends, slow down and get over as far left as you can. It’s not rocket science. Large tractors, buses, supermarkets lorries, delivery trucks, they all have to negotiate the islands roads and you should approach bends with that in mind.
Simple, advanced driving will teach you to be right over to the nearside for a right hand curve, and almost on the white line for a left hand curve.
If everyone drove that way most collisions on bends may be avoided but what is so dangerous is when someone driving the correct way meets someone who habitually cuts over the central markings..
And I suppose you’re going to go on and on how to drive buses large lorries trains etc.Big know it all’s know nothing.
That corner is dangerous, and most people take it far to fast. I’m surprised there aren’t more crashes on that corner. Looking at the photos, looks like the van driver cut that corner.
Yes you can see clearly the van at fault, unless bus reversed – not. Two busses get past each other so no reason van cut corner. Definitely police should be checking the van etc. Bus will have CCTV .It’s terribly dangerous trying to turn into Gills Cliff from Upper Ventnor as the ignorant few race up hill.
Corners aren’t dangerous, it’s the people who pay no heed to the road conditions that are the dangerous factor!
This is a very dangerous junction, glad no one hurt
Hardly a very dangerous junction. I cannot think of the last time an accident there
White van man’s anger at bus drivers 10% pay demand
The van was at fault. I was upstairs at the front. Van driver was looking at phone. Also his insurance was 3 years out of date!
