Southern Water engineers have been called out to Pondwell on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Wednesday) where a burst water main has been discovered.
Water is currently gushing down the hill and is creating some minor flooding at the bottom of Nettlestone Hill.
It appears the main has gone at the junction with Gregory Avenue, where the road has been partially lifted. It happened sometime before 07:15.
Southern Water says it has a team on site repairing the burst. The utility firm warns locals may notice some discolouration or low pressure at first; this is completely normal when there’s been a disruption to the supply and is only temporary.
It is the latest in a growing number of water main bursts in the Nettlestone and Pondwell area, many of which have caused significant disruption due to multiple road closures. However, it would seem this time around the road will be able to remain open.

As more houses fill the island the water main has to have its pressure increased to meet the extra demand.
So expect more bursts and larger bills to cover the costs as we pay more for our water because of massive building projects which only those with vested interests wanted
Same place the road was dug up a few weeks ago
