A burst water main has forced the closure of St John’s Hill in Ryde this morning (Friday) leading to diversions for motorists and local buses.
Southern Water engineers are on site fixing the pipe, which has blown near to the junction with Upper Highland Road.
A road closure is currently in place between Alexandra Road and High Street, Oakfield with advance warnings signs from Green Street to East Hill Road.
Island Echo is told that the water supply has been restored, although local residents may experience some discolouration for a time. This is completely normal.
Southern Vectis Routes 3 and 8 are diverting in and out of Ryde via East Hill Road and are therefore not serving stops on St John’s Hill, St John’s Road or Benett Street.

“residents may experience some discolouration for a time. This is completely normal.”
Yes, completely normal for under investment in our critical infrastructure all so the Tories can give more tax cuts to buy their next election.
You don’t seem to realise that the water companies were privatised in 1989. The government are indirectly to blame through poorly regulating these monopolies but all governments have been slack with water companies since privatisation, which is a failed experiment. The main problem is that water companies hand out vast amounts in dividends to shareholders rather than investing in infrastructure. They are obviously charging us far more than it costs to provide water, which is a disgrace, and we have no choice about paying for it because there is no competition. It is time to knock this stupid experiment on the head and put water services back in public ownership.
It burst last night around 8.
They could of sorted it overnight and saved disruption.
Buuuuuut i think they like it really
Probably leave it all weekend now
