A salon with a beauty therapist of over 16 years standing will open in an Isle of Wight garden after over a dozen letters of support for the proposal.
Council officers have accepted Caymen Collins’ plans for a ‘sustainable home-based business’ in a garden outbuilding behind a property at 8 Queens Road in Sandown.
The salon will operate on an appointment-only basis between 08:00 and 19:00 from Monday to Friday and from 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturday, according to submitted documents.
County Hall’s decision report on proposal 25/01857/FUL said:
“The application site is within a Key Regeneration Area and would provide a small-scale service for the community in this part of Sandown.
“Although the immediate surrounding area is residential in character, the nature of the proposed business use would not be industrial and would be small scale, enabling the applicant to work from their home.
“Therefore, the proposed use as a beauty salon at 8 Queens Road would be considered appropriate in the context of the surrounding area and would provide the ongoing use of a well utilised service, which would be convenient and beneficial to the local community.”
The council received 13 letters in support of the bid. Arguments included the nature of the use being quiet and non-intrusive on neighbours and treatments provided by the salon having a positive impact on personal wellbeing.
A submitted Planning Statement said:
“Planning permission is sought for the change of use of the single room outbuilding to a small beauty salon. The salon will be operated solely by myself. I have over 16 years’ experience in beauty therapy on the Isle of Wight and I’ve been self-employed for the past eight years.
“The salon will operate on an appointment-only basis and will contain one massage couch, one manicure table, a seated area, storage, and a worktop. There will be no additional staff working.”

common sense prevails
As long as numpties don’t park selfishly then it
is ok, if it causes parking issues then it’s a NO NO.
Sandown like many places on the island has parking
problems.
Just returned from Sandown Pier and numpties
are still parking in the pedestrianised zone even
though it is closed off by SGN at one end.
Cannot make this sh*t up! so obviously turning
right in the wrong direction
Lol
if its by appointment only, ie one client at a time and there
is off road parking, which clearly there is, then whats the problem?
Not a problem them it’s only because so
many selfish B’stards on the island park where the
Fcuk they like!
Many don’t understand rules.
