Numerous containers are in situ at Appley Car Park. The sudden appearance of over 15 large sewage storage containers at Ryde’s Appley Car Park is as a result of ongoing works to fix a burst sewer pipe on the outskirts of Brading, Southern Water has confirmed. As first reported by Island Echo, contractors arrived at West Lane – the road connecting Brading to Ashey – as a result of a failed pipe on Friday 16th February. Since then, Southern Water engineers have been working around the clock to resolve the situation, with pumping equipment established on site. Despite the efforts throughout the working week, it now seems as though the main repair of the burst won’t be carried out until at least next week, with Southern Water waiting for 2 days of dry weather. This morning (Friday), Ryde locals noticed that the majority of the car park at Appley – near the pumping station – had been sectioned off and multiple containers were being lifted into place by a crane. The ongoing works mean that unsightly containers – which Island Echo understands are being used to store sewage – are to remain at Appley for some time. Practically all of the car park has been fenced off, with just the top section remaining open to the public. The scene in Brading last weekend (17th February). A spokesperson from Southern Water has said:
“Our teams are continuing to repair a burst sewer pipe on land near West Lane, near Brading, we’re sorry for the impact and inconvenience this is causing. “The main repair of the burst is expected to start in the near future as our teams are looking for suitable window with 2 days of dry weather for this to go ahead before March 1. “As part of this we will be using Appley Car Park during the repair as a storage location, but access will be available for a section of the car park “We have also taken samples that have been shared with the Environment Agency, they show there is no environmental impact at this moment in time. “When we have the dates for the full repair, we will provide a further update.”
West Lane in Brading is currently closed between the junctions with Harding Shute and Doctor’s Lane.

I wonder how long the containers will stay there. Containers are only used when usual storage is at capacity. (Or possibly the pump isn’t working properly/sufficiently.) In Surrey when similar happened they were there 6 months, untreated and festering. Shame the money we pay to shareholders doesn’t go into the infrastructure, isn’t it? Of course if it was nationalised all the money we pay would go into treatment and then there wouldn’t be any raw sewage to worry about.

So why don’t those tankers take it to Sandown, not the opposite way?
why store it at Appley.
this can’t be the full story, what is really going on?

Why Ryde?! Brading has its own car park, fill that up! Then Sandown, that’s closer than Ryde. How long is this going on for?

I hope they are paying to park those containers there
Will this stop the elderly from driving we need to keep people safe
Booring! Try the facts which show that young drivers are more likely to be involved in driving related accidents.
