Residents in Arreton fear they will be left without telephone and internet connectivity over the Christmas period following a car crash during the early hours of Sunday morning that wiped out a BT cabinet.
Households are being told it could be Christmas Eve (24th December) before communication channels are restored in the area, all being well. That has led to some residents fearing they may be without modern-day telecommunications if there is any kind of delay.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to the Horringford crossing in Arreton at around 04:20 on Sunday morning when a vehicle left the road and ploughed into a green BT cabinet. A cordon was erected around the area due to live wires being exposed as a result of the cabinet being ripped from its base.
Locals have been without telephone or internet services for over 24 hours, but it could be another week-and-a-half before things return to normal for the dozens of affected households.
Openreach engineers are working to piece together the network, but it isn’t a 5-minute job.
A spokesperson for the network company has said:
“There’s a lot of work to do to get the repairs done and we expect it to take at least several days.
“We understand how frustrating this must be for anyone is affected and we thank anyone involved for their patience while we get things fixed.
“Anyone experiencing any disruption with their phone or broadband service to report it to their service provider who will then inform us”.
