Households in the Arreton area without internet connectivity this morning (Sunday) as a result of a road traffic collision overnight which has resulted in a BT cabinet being completely destroyed.
The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when a vehicle left the road at the Horringford crossing, between Hale Common and Arreton.
Police remain in attendance due to the risk posed to the public by the exposure of live cables.
BT engineers have been alerted to the situation and are expected to arrive on scene later this morning, with a view to re-establishing connection for those affected by the sudden outage.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement in regards to the collision itself.
Police were also called to a collision at the other end of Arreton overnight. At around 03:00 a vehicle rolled between Merstone and Arreton Cross. No one was trapped or seriously injured.
UPDATE @ 13:05 – Police have confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved in this morning’s crash has sustained minor injuries.
Officers were alerted to the single vehicle collision at 04:20.
Hampshire Constabulary say they are in touch with the driver and enquires are ongoing.
A sad example of the vulnerability of the internet. on which many of our essential services now depend.
Well, lets hope that the driver responsible receives the bill.
This is the problem of the net. We rely on it almost totally. A target for vandals, terrrorists, anarcists and drunk, drugged, or just unlucky road users.
