A large police presence has descended into a quiet residential street in Ryde following reports of a man armed with a knife this evening (Tuesday).
Residents between Newport and Ryde noticed a flurry of police activity on the main road between the towns, as 7 units – including unmarked vehicles and a dog unit – made their way to the scene on Sandcroft Avenue at just after 20:00.
Island Echo understands that the large and fast response came after reports of a man armed with a knife at an address in the area.
It’s understood that 1 male has been swiftly arrested by officers and has been taken to Newport police station.
The majority of the police units have now stood down from the scene following the quick resolution of the incident. At least 1 unit remains on the street off Quarry Road.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including making threats to kill.
