Armed police have descended on Ryde Town Centre this evening (Monday) alongside other local officers.
Several units – including 2 Armed Response Vehicles (ARVs) – responded to the area of Lind Street and Union Street shortly before 18:15.
A number of officers are currently patrolling the busy area.
UPDATE @ 19:12 – The focus of the deployment has been around a residential flat above HRD and Dominos in Union Street, Island Echo can reveal.
3 armed officers entered the property with a 4th containing the scene and keeping eyes on the building from the pavement opposite. However, the incident has now been brought to a close.
It is thought that the incident was sparked by reports of an individual with a firearm, but it would appear that the incident has been declared a false alarm.
Shocked pub-goers watched the situation unfold from Wetherspoons on Union Street. Heavily armed officers parked out of sight around the corner before moving in on the target property.
All units have now stood down.
UPDATE TUESDAY – It has been confirmed that officers were responding to reports of a person with a firearm in Ryde yesterday evening.
According to Police, a report was received at 17:53 and Armed Officers were deployed to the scene.
However, it was soon discovered that the firearm was in fact a BB gun.
Words of advice were given to the occupants of the property and the BB gun was handed over for destruction.

Wouldn’t be easier to move armed police to Ryde always there
Ryde future landfill site
Easier to move yourself to Lynnbottom, considering the rubbish you keep on talking about!
Perhaps another ‘local’ child has taken a weapon into school.
Wait until the huge building takes place in Ryde, things will only get far far worse. Most won’t be real Island people. So get used to it.
Won’t be real island ppl..says az zahra aziz…a real island name that…class lmao
Plenty to say again as zahra hey
What’s a real island person? A smack head? A pensioner? Alcoholic?
Clearly, IF you have to ask, then YOU are not one.
I am an islander and I am not a smack head, or alcoholic and feel very offended by your. comment. I am a pensioner now but I have contributed all my working life to the Islands economy and still am.
@disgruntled Islander
You can finally spend your pension money on booze and heroin
If your lucky enough to become a pensioner, will you use age to belittle the Island residents? bunched in with smack heads? and alcoholics?.
You clearly don’t like the Island from what you have posted, perhaps you should move to one of the big cities then you will see much more of what you are cementing on.
Cementing?
I resemble that remark……..
Oh my! We are going to be overrun by people who are not ‘real island people’!…,
How do you tell if they are real or not?!
What’s the test!?
What’s to be done with them!?
Block the ports! Dig up the airfields! Repel all boarders! Apparently only ‘real’ people are welcome here.
Please stop trolling A-z A – this used to be a serious and engaging political forum.
This a local Island for local people, we’ll have no shouting here !!
Another unbelievably stupid comment from the pathetic imagination of Aziz.
Drug squad would have been more appropriate. Curtains usually closed.
That’s genuinely libelous.
Wait for all the anti-Ryde bashers band waggon.
Most of the selfstyled “real islanders” appear to have aquired their divisive air of superiority from an early age. So sad.
Perhaps you should visit or live in Saudi Arabia or some other middle eastern regions if you want to know about divisive superiority, by the way, don’t take you wife with you because it would not be a good lifestyle for her…
I will be moving to the new builds from Luton,
Ahad youover
Well guest, hope your new build has plenty of space for all your cars, and enough garden space for your children to enjoy, but most importantly a good job.
By the way, bring a crash helmet with you, because your going to need one when driving on this Island…
