Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision between a motorcycle and a car in Shanklin yesterday afternoon (Sunday), which has left a motorcyclist with significant leg injuries.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the crossroads junction at the bottom of Atherley Road and Arthurs Hill at just after 13:00.
Police, paramedics and firefighters from nearby Shanklin Fire Station arrived on scene to find a motorcyclist lying injured on the floor. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was subsequently scrambled to the scene and landed in the nearby Atherley Road car park.
It has been confirmed that the injured rider, a 36-year-old man from Ryde, suffered serious leg injuries in the crash. He was flown by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains this morning.
Officers investigating the crash have revealed that the motorcycle, a Honda XL125, was travelling from Hope Road and the car – a black VW Golf – was travelling from Atherley Road. The driver of the VW Golf, a 46-year-old man, was uninjured.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or either vehicle prior to the incident. They would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage.
