The Labour Party and Reform UK have put up candidates against councillor Jonathan Bacon of the Alliance in the upcoming Isle of Wight Council elections.
Residents of Brading and St Helens can vote for Alexander Buggie (Labour Party), Tara Hill (Reform UK) or Cllr Bacon who was elected in 2021 after previously serving on the council from 2009 to 2017.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) approached all candidates for 100-word pitches or photos, either directly or through parties or groups, prior to the May 7 poll.
Here’s what they had to say, in no particular order…
Jonathan Francis Bacon (incumbent ward councillor)
I am the only local candidate. I will put residents first and continue to do my best to deal with issues and problems people bring to me. I will not take on any role that might compromise my ability to do so. I will not make hollow promises to achieve things just to secure your support.
There may be some local apathy because some parties are not standing in the ward. However it is vitally important to vote to get a result you are happy with rather than risking having someone who has no interest in the ward getting elected.
Alexander Buggie
Alexander Buggieis an experienced university graduate and keen amateur astronomer with a real drive to get the younger generation to be the leaders that we know they can be.
Tara Hill
